Leadership Lesson: The issues of racism, immoral behavior, and bad leadership, as it is commonly understood, did not begin with the killing of George Floyd. However, the tragic event placed a spotlight on symptoms of a more widespread problem. The tragic event presents an opportunity for many to demonstrate leadership. A person’s race is not always a factor, but too often it is. We are finding that it is more about an absence of leadership and a moral deficit. The official charges against Derek Chauvin stated he was one “evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life.” We all know the Kenneth-Maxwell Nance quote: “Leadership matters wherever it exists for the good or ill of people.” In our next “Leadership Lesson” video, we will discuss the cause, the problem, and the symptoms. In today’s video, we see that similar problems exist among those who have access to some of the world’s best leadership training.
